Our Tropical Island Wedding Ceremony- Christian Version

Today is a day of celebration. We are here, before God, surrounded by incredible beauty to celebrate life, love, and the beauty of relationships. But more importantly we are here to celebrate the relationship of two people who have come here to embark on an incredible journey and set sail for a magical life together.
It is such a wonderful blessing that the two of you have found each other in this world. Your hearts met and through your relationship unfolded vulnerable honesty, gentle caring, and that crazy little thing we call love, which has bonded you for life.
The beauty of this marriage is that you will always continue to learn together and teach each other, to open each other to explore new ideas, to share life and bring out the very best in one another. The two of you will never lose your freedom by being married because you will become freer by being together. Your world will become larger and your options more abundant than what would have been alone.

What could be more beautiful? What could be more fun?

Wear them to tell each other and the whole world that you are in love with the very special person wearing the other one.

Pronouncement of Marriage
Having witnessed the vows you have just made to each other,

surrounded by your love, the sun, the tropical sea of the Caribbean, by the loving grace of God, and by the authority vested in me, upheld by the laws of the U.S. Virgin Islands, I now pronounce you co-captains in life, best friends forever, and for the second time husband and wife.

( Husband ), you may kiss your Wife.

ROSE CERMOMNY

Your gift to each other for your wedding today has been your wedding rings – which shall always be an outward demonstration of your vows of love and respect; and a public showing of your commitment to each other.

You now have what remains the most honorable title which may exist between a man and a woman – the title of “husband” and “wife.” For your first gift as husband and wife, that gift will be a single rose.

In the past, the rose was considered a symbol of love and a single rose always meant only one thing – it meant the words “I love you.” So it is appropriate that for your first gift – as husband and wife – that gift would be a single rose.

Please exchange your first gift as husband and wife. In some ways it seems like you have not done anything at all. Just a moment ago you were holding one small rose – and now you are holding one small rose. In some ways, a marriage ceremony is like this. In some ways, tomorrow is going to seem no different than yesterday. But in fact today, just now, you both have given and received one of the most valuable and precious gifts of life – one I hope you always remember – the gift of true and abiding love within the devotion of marriage.

________ and _____________, I would ask that where ever you make your home in the future – whether it be a large and elegant home – or a small and graceful one – that you both pick one very special location for roses; so that on each anniversary of this truly wonderful occasion you both may take a rose to that spot both as a recommitment to your marriage – and a recommitment that THIS will be a marriage based upon love.

In every marriage there are times where it is difficult to find the right words. It is easiest to hurt who we most love. It is easiest to be most hurt by who we most love. It might be difficult some time to words to say “I am sorry” or “I forgive you”; “I need you” or “I am hurting”. If this should happen, if you simply can not find these words, leave a rose at that spot which both of you have selected – for that rose than says what matters most of all and should overpower all other things and all other words.

That rose says the words: “I still love you.” The other should accept this rose for the words which cannot be found, and remember the love and hope that you both share today.
__________ and ________, if there is anything you remember of this marriage ceremony, it is that it was love that brought you here today, it is only love which can make it a glorious union, and it is by love which your marriage shall endure.”

HAND CEREMONY

We are here today to bear witness to ___________________and _________in their desire to enter into the Holy Bond of marriage. Of the three greatest institutions- The home, the church and the state- the home is the most sacred, in the consummation of the first marriage. The woman whom God made as a helpmate for man was not taken from his head to rule over him, or from his feet to be trampled by him. But from his side that she might be his equal. From under his arms that she might receive his protection, and from near his heart that she might own and command his love. The relationship of a husband and wife is the most sacred when it is the “two souls with a single thought- and two hearts that beats as one”.
Please face each other and take each other’s hands so that you may see the gift that they are to you. These are the hands of your best friend, strong and fill of love for you that are holding years on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever. These are the hands that will work alongside of yours as together you build your future. These are hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy. These are the hands that will give you support and encouragement to chase down your dreams. These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times. These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it. These are the hands that will lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise you face to look into the eyes that are filled with overwhelming love for you. And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will be still be reaching for you, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
Vows
____________have you come here today of your own free will and without my reservation, to take ____________as you lawfully wedded wife? If so say I DO.
____________have you come here today of your own free will and without reservation, to take ____________as you’re lawfully wedded husband? If so say I DO.

Three Cord Ceremonies

Today Bride and Groom have chosen to braid three strands together into a single cord.
Each strand has significant meaning.
The _______strand represents God and his majesty.
The _______ strand represents the groom and his life.
The _______ strand represents the bride and her life.
In braiding these three strands together Groom and Bride have demonstrated that their marriage is more than a joining of two lives together. It is a unity with God as well. They have chosen to allow God to be at the center of their marriage, woven into every aspect of it.
Read: Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12
Two are better than one because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Apache Prayer

Now you feel no rain, for each of you will be a shelter to the other
Now you feel no cold, for each of you will be warmth to each other.
Now there is no loneliness, for each of you will be a companion to each other.
You are two bodies, but there is only one life before you and one home.
When evening falls look up and you will be there for each other.
Take each other’s hand and turn together
To look at the road you’ve traveled to reach this- the hour of your happiness.
It stretches behind you, even the future lies ahead.
A long and winding road, whose every turn means discovery,
Old hopes, new laughter, shared fears.
The adventure has just begun.

Unity Candle

( Please Note: Cannot be done outside or with any wind or ceiling fans)

“____ and ____ are going to light their unity candle, as a symbol of their commitment to one another. The candles from which they light it represent each of them as who they are as individuals. As they enter into their marriage they do not lose their identity, rather they create through their commitment the relationship of marriage. Therefore, three candles remain lighted, one for each of them and one for their marriage as symbols of their commitment to each other and to a lasting and loving marriage.”

Jumping of the Broom

Now the couple will seal their marriage with the jumping of the broom.

(Broom is placed in front of the couple)

This is a tradition that pays respect to your families and unites the couple spiritually.

By jumping the broom they will be

“sweeping away” former single lives, former problems and concerns,

and entering upon a new adventure as husband and wife.

(couple jumps broom)

Congratulations, you may kiss your Bride .

SAND CEREMONY

_____________ and _______________, you have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings and the exchange of a kiss, and this covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another throughout their lives. The most beautiful example of this partnership is the marriage relationship. You have promised here today to share the rest of your lives with each other. Today, your love and commitment is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand one, representing you, ______________ and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, and the other representing you, _____________, and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be. As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage forever be.

Vows with Children (in addition to couple`s vows)

This marriage is not just a marriage of husband and wife. It is a marriage of a family. We now ask all of you to promise that you will join together to create a family of mutual help, respect, love and support. We ask that you help to create a home and a way of life in which all of you may grow into the best people you can be. In this spirit, will you pledge to continue to grow together and honor this new family for all the days that follow? If so say “we will”
